The Ozempic Lawsuit – What to Know about it

Have you taken Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro? If so, listen up. A major legal storm is brewing — and you may be caught in it.

Thousands of people are suing Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly over claims that the companies’ popular diabetes and weight loss drugs caused them serious side effects such as stomach paralysis, pancreatitis, bowel obstructions and even vision loss. Some are even more devastating.

Let’s break it down in simple English so that you can know what is occurring, why it matters and how, if at all, you might help.

Are These Drugs Really Dangerous?

First things first: yes, some people have had life-destroying complications after taking Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro. Here’s the short version:

  • Gastroparesis: Your stomach doesn’t work right. Food doesn’t pass through your digestive tract, so you become nauseated, vomit, and become in constant pain.
  • Intestinal Obstruction: A blockage in your intestines that could need to be addressed with surgery.
  • Pancreatitis: Inflammation of the pancreas, very painful and potentially fatal.
  • NAION Vision Loss: Nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, a stroke in the eye that occurs when blood flow is cut off and can cause blindness.

These are not minor complaints; they are severe, sometimes irreversible, afflictions. The lawsuits claim that the drugmakers were aware of these risks but did not properly caution doctors or patients. That is why there are thousands of claims stacking up in court.

Why Is This Happening Now?

Both lawsuits are part of something known as an MDL — which stands for Multidistrict Litigation. It is similar to a legal traffic jam that occurs when you bunch cases into one place to make things more efficient. In these cases, MDL 3094 is associated with all Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro litigation. It’s in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and bellwether trials (test cases that are supposed to give the tone for later settlements) are projected around 2026–2027.

Why does this matter to you? Because if you have suffered any of the aforementioned side effects, you potentially can join the lawsuit — and potentially receive compensation. But don’t wait too long. There are deadlines, and if you miss yours, you’re out of it entirely.

Are You Qualify?

Here’s the catch — not everyone who took Ozempic is eligible to take part in the lawsuit. If you want to be in the running to join, you do need two key pieces of evidence:

  • Proof of Use: Medical documents indicating that you were prescribed and took either Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro.
  • Proof of Injury: Evidence that you, in fact, developed one of the side effects (such as gastroparesis or NAION) that are named on the warning label.

If the answer is yes to both, then it is likely that you are eligible to file a claim. But there’s a catch; you’ll have to get help from experienced attorneys who know about pharmaceutical lawsuits. They’ll help you pull together documents, fill out forms and build a case.

Where Can You Start?

If you believe you’re eligible, there’s no need to panic. It begins with the simplest of steps, reaching out to a law firm that specializes in these types of cases. Two reputable options include:

  • Miller & Zois: Reach out to them at 800-553-8082 or their website.
  • Seeger Weiss: Another big name in mass tort lawsuits.

At the first appointment (which is often free), you’ll explain your situation. From there, the lawyers can decide whether they think you have a good case. If they take you on, they’ll do most of the grunt work, like gathering medical records and drafting paperwork.

One important caveat: most firms operate on a contingency. That’s how you can avoid having to pay out of pocket for your case unless you win or reach a settlement.” So there’s no downside in looking at what’s available to you.

What Type of Compensation Could You Receive?

Let’s talk numbers. There have been no final settlements yet but estimates for payouts range from $100,000 to $500,000+ depending on the severity of your injury. For example:

  • Hospitalization: Moderate awards, generally at the lower end.
  • Permanent Disability: Compensation payments are higher, as the consequences of these are lifelong.
  • Blindness, Death: Likely where the biggest settlements will be, particularly because these are such painful and life-changing impacts.

But bear in mind that final numbers may vary, depending on:

  • Weakness or strength of the particular case.
  • The outcome of bellwether trials.
  • Total number of claimants in the MDL.

It’s possible significant compensation will be paid, or fees collected, but nothing is a given until the courts decide.
